Welcome to #GenGeo Storytelling for Impact: Video.Whether you are new to storytelling with video or an experienced filmmaker, this is a course for you. You don’t need to have experience, fancy equipment, or training. You only need a simple video camera— a phone—and a passion for National Geographic’s mission to “illuminate and protect the wonder of our world.” The course will take you about nine hours to complete and you can begin, contribute, and finish at your own pace. This is one course in the Storytelling for Impact program developed by National Geographic in partnership with Adobe. This program helps beginners develop the skills to create and share powerful stories with a purpose that could lead to action.In this video course, you will work alongside National Geographic filmmaker Sandesh Kadur to create your own video story about a character’s encounters with its surrounding environment.This course has three parts to it:<ul><li>Session 1 challenges you to examine a few core ideas around storytelling and video;</li><li>Session 2 guides you through the creation of your own video story, working in parallel with a National Geographic filmmaker; and</li><li>Session 3 asks you to explore ways to take the knowledge and experience from this video storytelling process and expand that for greater impact.</li></ul>By the end of this course, you will have a video story in your portfolio to share and build upon.
