Welcome to Storytelling for Impact in Your Classroom: Video. This course is one in a series of five courses of the National Geographic Education program Storytelling for Impact developed by National Geographic in partnership with Adobe. This program helps beginners develop the skills to create and share powerful stories with a purpose that could lead to action.This course is designed to provide a deeper understanding of the power of storytelling and the strengths of video as a visual tool with which to tell a story, and its value as an instructional tool in your classroom. The course begins with a brief discussion and activity that focuses on the educational attributes of video storytelling to inspire change. You will create a short video story with the support of documentary filmmaker, photographer and author, and National Geographic Storytelling Fellow, Sandesh Kadur. Finally, you will plan on ways to integrate storytelling and video into your classroom with the end goal of supporting your students using video stories to inspire change. You don’t need to have experience, fancy equipment, or training. You only need a simple camera or a cell phone, and a passion for National Geographic’s mission “to illuminate and protect the wonder of our world.”In this course you will:<ul><li>Develop an understanding of the educational impact of video and storytelling as vital literacies for the classroom.  </li><li>Create a video story to gain a deeper understanding of video as a tool with which to communicate powerful stories that can lead to action. </li><li>Design ways to integrate video storytelling in your classroom.</li><li>Explore available tools to create stories using video. </li></ul> Session 1: Introduction to Storytelling Through VideoIn this session, you will introduce yourself; analyze and reflect on the nature of video and storytelling, its educational value; and prepare for video storytelling creation. (1 hour) Session 2: A Moving Portrait In this session, you will create a three-minute video working in parallel with Sandesh Kadur, a National Geographic Emerging Explorer and Filmmaker. (7 hours) Session 3: Students As StorytellersIn the final session, you will reflect on the story you created, on the process you experienced, and will strategize on how to integrate video storytelling into your classroom. (1 hour) <a href="https://www.nationalgeographic.org/education/professional-development/courses/" target="_blank">Click here</a> to return to the full menu of online courses for educators.
