Audio storytelling is the process of telling stories using only voice, sounds, and music. Part of what makes this form of storytelling so compelling is its simplicity and emotional closeness. With only a handful of tools with which to work, the focus is on the story itself. The audience must slow down and listen to the voices of others. Your stories can be powerful, efficient, and impactful as you amplify your voice and create change.In this free online course, National Geographic storytellers will introduce you to the power of audio storytelling and guide you in creating your own story. This course is intended for novice storytellers, ages 16 - 25, and you can use simple recording equipment, such as a smartphone or tablet. No other equipment is needed.The course will take you about seven hours to complete and you can begin, contribute, and finish at your own pace.The Storytelling for Impact program was developed in partnership with Adobe, a champion for creativity and the power of storytelling.Throughout this course, you will:<ul><li>Develop an understanding of elements of impactful of audio storytelling</li><li>Create an audio story that highlights the ways history has shaped the present and future of you community to inspire empathy and action among listeners</li><li>Design ways to expand upon this experience, through sharing this story </li><li>Build your digital literacy skills by exploring available tools to create stories using voice, sound and music </li></ul>This course is divided into three sessions:Session 1 asks you to introduce yourself and build your vocabulary of audio storytelling ideas by listening to and analyzing the first five minutes of a few successful podcasts. (1 hour)Session 2 guides you through the creation of your own audio story, working in parallel with a National Geographic Audio Storyteller. (5 hours)Session 3 asks you to explore ways to take the knowledge and experience from this audio storytelling process and expand it for greater impact.
