Welcome to the National Geographic Educator Certification course! This course seeks to inspire Pre-K—12 formal and informal educators to teach students about the world in innovative and interdisciplinary ways. The course will run February 15 - April 25 and is self paced. Throughout this experience you will have the opportunity to connect to inspiring educators, develop skills that will add depth and meaning to your teaching, and create a multimedia project to showcase your growth and impact. Achieving certification will provide you with professional recognition and development; lifelong community with like-minded educators; and relationships, resources, perks, and opportunities with National Geographic Society. Throughout the course there are opportunities for mentorship and many ways to get support. We will hold four optional live webinars throughout the course. Certification GoalsBy participating in the National Geographic Educator Certification course, you will:<ul><li>Develop new strategies for teaching about the world in innovative, interdisciplinary ways.</li><li>Cultivate an &quot;explorer mindset&quot; in your students that empowers them to become change agents.</li><li>Engage with an online network of expert educators and support each other&#39;s professional growth during the program and beyond.</li></ul>The National Geographic Educator Certification course consists of three phases, which you can complete at your own pace. It takes educators approximately 20-30 hours to complete the course from start to finish. If you have already taken the Phase 1 workshop you may skip ahead to Phase 2, though we recommend revisiting Phase 1 if possible as it is the foundation for your success in this course. Phase 1: Certification Workshop &amp; Planning (~2-3 hours)The workshop is rooted in National Geographic&#39;s Learning Framework. The Learning Framework is built around attitudes, skills, and knowledge areas that encourage students to think like National Geographic Explorers. Your learning in the Phase 1 workshop will be instrumental in completing Phases 2 and 3 of Certification. Submissions include short reflections and responses throughout the module. Phase 2: Classroom Implementation &amp; Reflection (~5-7 hours)In Phase 2, you will have access to a community of experts as you implement two (2) classroom activities that draw upon your knowledge of the National Geographic Learning Framework. We challenge you to teach your students about our interconnected world in ways you may not have tried before. You will be asked to submit a reflection form for each activity. Phase 3: Capstone Development &amp; Storytelling (~8-10 hours)Your capstone project should tell the story of your students&#39; learning in a visual and creative way. We want to know how your chosen activities reflect the attitudes, skills, and knowledge of the National Geographic Learning Framework, and how they fit in with your personal identity, values, or philosophy as an educator. Your capstone submission will be a Multimedia Reflection Form, which will include 2-6 photos of student work, a 2-6 minute video describing the impact of the activities you implemented, and a reflection. (Note that you do not need any prior experience creating videos; there are resources to guide you at this phase.) Completing Your CertificationYour Certification work will be reviewed through May 2021.
